Before & After School Care

The Phoenix Elementary School District is excited to announce low or no-cost before and after-school care services to support our families for the 2025-2026 school year. Programs will be offered by the YMCA, G-Road, or Boys and Girls Club, depending on your school, and are available for students aged 5 and above. Please note that the available services and costs have changed at some sites.

YMCA Before & After-School Programs

  • Locations: Bethune, Capitol, Kenilworth, Lowell, Magnet Traditional, Shaw Montessori, Whittier
  • On-site care at your child’s school
  • Activities include:
    • Homework assistance
    • STEM, arts, and physical activity
    • District academic alignment

Rates:


G-Road at Emerson

  • Location: Emerson
  • Before-school and after-school care for Emerson students
  • After-school care for Whittier 6th through 8th grade students
    • The District will transport students from Whittier to Emerson after school for the program
  • Cost: No cost to families (limited capacity)

Programming coordinators are running unique and engaging after-school programs for Emerson students that focus on arts, athletics, and education.


Boys & Girls Club

  • Bethune, Capitol, Kenilworth & Magnet Traditional students will be bused to:

    • Annual Membership: $30 per youth (ages 5-12)
      • After-School Program: $40/month 
    • Teen Membership $30 annually (ages 13-17)
      • After-School Program included with teen membership
         
  • Edison, Garfield, and Herrera students will be bused to:
    Warner & Shirley Gabel Club, 1330 N. 15th St., Phoenix, AZ | ☎ 602-252-7968
    • Annual Membership: $30 per youth (ages 5-12)
      • After-School Program: $60/month
    • Teen Membership $30 annually (ages 13-17)
      • After-School Program included with teen membership
    • Exclusive offer for Garfield students: $30 total fee for the whole school year for the after-school program
    • Scholarships available through Boys and Girls Club. Please contact the Boys and Girls Club to apply.
    • Exclusive offer for Edison and Garfield students who live in Harmony at the Park Apartments (1950 E Polk St, Phoenix, AZ 85006): A bus will transport students from the Boys and Girls Club to the apartments at 6:15 p.m. every weekday school is in session. *Parents MUST complete a transportation form at the club to secure a seat. Transportation back to Harmony at the Park is provided by Boys and Girls Club of Metro Phoenix.

  • How do I register?
    • Follow the appropriate registration link above. For in-person support, visit your school or the District Office.
  • When should I register?
    • As soon as possible. Providers use registration numbers to plan staffing and group sizes.
  • When do services begin?
    • YMCA and Boys and Girls Club: Before and after-school care begins on the first day of school.
    • G-Road: Services begin Monday, August 4, 2025
  • What are the hours?
    • YMCA: 
      • Before-school care begins at 6:30 a.m. and ends at school start time
      • After-school care runs from school dismissal until 6:00 p.m. 
    • G-Road:
      • Before-school care begins at 6:30 a.m. and ends at school start time
      • After-school care runs from school dismissal until 6:00 p.m. 
    • Boys & Girls Club:
      • After-school care runs from school dismissal until 7:00 p.m. 
  • Will there still be sports?
    • Yes! After-school athletics continue for 6th–8th graders.
  • Who supervises these programs?
    • All providers are CPR / First Aid trained, background-checked, and trained to ensure safe, engaging, and supportive environments.
  • Is care available for Pre-K students?
    • Care is available for students aged 5 and up. 
  • Is financial assistance available?
    • Yes. YMCA and Boys & Girls Club offer scholarships or financial aid. Contact the provider directly to learn more.
  • Are providers DES-approved?
    • Yes, YMCA is DES approved
  • How do I know if my child has been accepted?
    • YMCA: You will receive an email confirmation of your registration
    • G-Road: Space is limited — families will be contacted after registering
    • Boys & Girls Club: Registration is confirmed after payment and parent orientation are completed. 
  • What happens on early release days?
    • Programs will adjust schedules to remain open.
  • Is food or a snack provided?
    • Yes. Providers offer an afternoon snack or meal. 
  • Can my child attend only a few days a week?
    • This depends on the provider. The YMCA, for example, bills monthly regardless of attendance. Contact your provider to discuss part-time options.
  • What if my child has special needs or an IEP?
    • All programs strive to accommodate individual needs. Share details during registration so staff can prepare appropriate support
